The Wellbrow Fell Pony Stud situated in the picturesque Rossendale Valley is the most southerly of the fell pony hill breeders. The Stud was formed using Heltondale and Tebay bloodlines – these being ponies of a true type – old fashioned and as hard as nails. Living and breeding out on the open Pennine moors straddling the three counties of Lancashire, Yorkshire and Greater Manchester, the bulk of the land being in excess of 1000ft above sea level.
Our aim is to breed good quality, traditional type ponies, capable of doing a day’s work, pleasure riding or being produced for the show ring. We particularly want a sensible, level headed pony with a good temperament
Most ponies are sold as youngsters, however some are sold older. Most are handled and halter broke but green when they leave us, but with the fantastic temperament and stable manners their new owners are very pleased with their pony.
Many ponies which we sell are for family pets which stay with them forever, some are bought for breeding and other to compete in show ring, with tremendous movement and lots of ring presence Wellbrow Fell Ponies usually do very well in the show ring both ridden and in-hand, some competing at the highest of levels including qualifying for HOYS and RIHS. We have had many Wellbrow Ponies turn their hooves to Working Hunter whether this is for pleasure at home or in competitions, as well as dressage. Our ponies excel in all areas which is why we feel they are the perfect pony for anyone.
We also have ponies in riding schools, trekking centres and Riding for the Disabled Centres.
We breed blacks, grey and browns but the majority are black ponies, all of which being true to type, with correct conformation and movement, also having good silky straight feather, and flat bone. All our ponies are registered and micro chipped as foals and are regularly wormed and handled.
